Ray Fisher Wants Cyborg To Battle An Iconic Superman Villain In The DCEU
Zack Snyder's Justice League introduced several new characters to the DCEU, and one of the biggest scene-stealers of the bunch was Ray Fisher's Cyborg. The character's techno-superpowers proved incredibly useful in the battle against Steppenwolf, and now we have learned that Fisher wants to pit the hero against another DC big bad, this time from the Superman corner of the DC mythos: Brainiac. In a recent interview, Fisher explained:
I would take Brainiac, from Superman. For sure. Cyborg and Brainiac? I think that would be a really cool match up.
As Ray Fisher explained during a recent panel appearance at Wizard World Philadelphia, he would like to see the metal DC hero go up against the rogue Kryptonian AI/antagonist from Colu (whatever background they decide to go with). Brainiac is one of the most iconic villains in the DC lore, and he's one of the most instantly-recognizable bad guys from the Superman comics. We don't know what the fight between them would look like, but it's definitely an interesting suggestion, to say the least.
Though Brainiac is known as a Superman villain (and sometimes a villain to the entire Justice League), it would arguably make a lot of sense of Cyborg to do battle with him. The two characters are both technologically enhanced with alien cybernetics an artificial intelligence, so Cyborg could potentially hold his own in a digital fight. Moreover, a significant portion of Brainiac's persona involves his cold detachment from life and his purely-analytical perspective, which is something that Cyborg consistently struggles to avoid in his efforts to preserve the human side of his body and his personality.
Of course, this choice also makes sense when we look at how sparsely populated Cyborg's rogues gallery is in the comics. Though some writers have introduced interesting foes for him to face off against, such as the recent inclusion of Malware at the beginning of his Rebirth run, some of Cyborg's most prominent and best adventures have occurred during crossovers with other heroes or team missions. With relatively minimal iconic villains to choose from, sending him up against a more well-known bad guy from another hero's rogues gallery could make for fascinating storytelling. We still don't know when Cyborg will show up next in the DCEU, but it's easy to imagine that many fans would go wild for this potential idea.
No matter what happens with Cyborg in the DCEU, we will bring you all of the latest updates related to all of the Justice League heroes as new information is made available to us. On that note, keep an eye out for James Wan's Aquaman when Arthur Curry's first solo adventure debuts later this year on December 21.
As much as I hate to say it, The Tall Man may be a horror icon, but he doesn't have quite the following or exposure of some of the other series. I'd just have a hard time not having the New Nightmare "demon all along" Freddy involved when you deal with another antagonist who so readily plays with the barriers of dreams and reality.
