That Luke Skywalker Lightsaber Auction Has Been Cancelled Due To Authenticity, And Mark Hamill Responded

It's no secret that Star Wars is one of the most popular film franchises of all time. George Lucas' space opera has spanned decades and generations of moviegoers, allowing the property to accrue a mass of fans since A New Hope arrived in 1977. And since the galaxy far, far away means so much to moviegoers, they're willing to shell out top dollar to take home props from the movies-- especially the original trilogy.

That's exactly what happened when an L.A. auction recently put up Luke Skywalker's blue lightsaber, which was reportedly used by the protagonist in A New Hope. The auction claimed it was one of five props designed by Roger Christian, although Mark Hamill wasn't sure about it's authenticity. And after warning fans against shelling out 20k for a prop that might be fake, the item has officially been removed from the auction.

When news of the lightsaber's removal from the auction became public, one of Mark Hamill's many Twitter fans if he was home laughing about the situation. While responding, Hamill was sure to take a jab at himself too, saying:

While seemingly reacting to news of the blue lightsaber's fate, Mark Hamill also revealed something that will shock most Star Wars fans out there: he doesn't even have a lightsaber at home. So while countless kids have taken up a toy saber and pretended to be Luke, it turns out that the man himself doesn't have the Jedi's legendary weapon on hand.

The lightsaber in question was going up for a whopping $200,000, so its authenticity is rather important. After all, who wants to shell out all that money for a fake? Mark Hamill was sure to warn the fandom about this possibility, and now it seems that the auction in question has taken his concerns seriously.

In fact, Profiles in History, the auction which was originally set to sell off the questionable lightsaber, has even released a statement about the lightsaber (via The Guardian). It reads:

In light of conflicting information regarding the origin of Roger Christian's lightsaber, Profiles in History has decided to withdraw the piece from this auction until Mr Christian can clear up the inconsistencies that have been brought to our attention.

It looks like the origin of the blue lightsaber is up for question-- especially who created it, and if it was truly used by Mark Hamill in A New Hope. The Star Wars actor has maintained that he's used a ton of lightsaber throughout the years, so it's tricky to nail down which one was used during the first film in the franchise. And now it seems the authenticity of the prop is going to be verified before it's sold at such a high cost.

Did The Incredibles Cast Ever Give Up On The Sequel? Sam Jackson, Craig T. Nelson And Holly Hunter Weigh In

Incredibles 2 is a film that fans have been begging for ever since the end credits began to roll on the first one -- but the sequel has certainly taken its sweet time getting here. With writer/director Brad Bird moving on to explore other projects, it's been nearly a full decade-and-a-half since we first saw the Parr family up on the big screen. That amount of time naturally led some to lose faith in the idea that the project was happening, and to turns out that Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter can be counted among them -- though the same cannot be said for Samuel L. Jackson. Click play on the video below to hear their thoughts!

Last week I sat down with the cast of Incredibles 2 at the movie's Los Angeles press day, and when speaking to the stars of the original film, my first question out the gate was in regard to their belief whether or not the project would ever actually happen. I asked if there was any point where they didn't think it was going to be made -- and while Samuel L. Jackson apparently always knew it was going to come together, both Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter revealed that they at one point did move on from the idea.

Citing their reasons why, the actors who play Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl said that they just felt the time had passed for Incredibles 2, Craig T. Nelson literally just saying, 'You give up.' For Samuel L. Jackson, though, what helped him believe was simply occasional contact with Brad Bird. The actor would sometimes see the filmmaker and ask for Frozone updates, and walked away from those interactions with confidence. Said Jackson,

[What helped me keep the faith was] just the fact that Brad was still making movies, and that every time I saw him and I said something to him about it he would go, 'That's going to happen!' One of the last times I saw him he said, 'I have a kernel of an idea.' 'Oh, okay!' That's hope.

So what was it like to get the call from Brad Bird and learn that Incredibles 2 was actually happening? For Samuel L. Jackson, it was essentially an, "About time" response, comedically comparing it to a phone call he may get in the not so distant future:

It will be the same thing that happens when they finally say, 'You know what, we decided Mace Windu's not dead.'

The best news of all is that the wait for fans is almost at an end. Featuring a supporting cast that includes Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Jonathan Banks, Sophia Bush and more, Incredibles 2 arrives in theaters this Friday, June 15th. What Is Really Going On With Robert Pattinson And The Batman Movie?

Ever since Ben Affleck confirmed he was retiring as Batman following his three-film run in the DC Extended Universe, fans wondered who would replace him as the Caped Crusader for Matt Reeves The Batman. And then, just two weeks ago, the internet was taken by storm with the news that Robert Pattinson would put on the cape and cowl or at least, thats how it looked at first, as word came in soon after that Dark Phoenix star Nicholas Hoult was also in the running for the role.

Whether or not you think Robert Pattinson would make a good Batman, itd be nice if we had some official confirmation if he is actually succeeding Ben Affleck as the incredibly popular DC Comics superhero. Which brings us to today, where at first glance, it looked like it was finally set in stone that Pattinson will indeed star in The Batman. Once again, though, things arent exactly what they seem.

If Variety is to be believed, then Robert Pattinson playing Batman is a done deal, with the actor having closed a deal with Warner Bros. However, outlets like The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter are saying that while Warner Bros has selected Pattinson to be the next Batman, a deal hasnt been worked out yet. This is something IGNs Jim Vejvoda echoed with the following tweet:

Officially, Warner Bros hasnt said a peep about Robert Pattinsons connection to The Batman, although Deadlines report on the subject says that we should expect an announcement imminently. Unofficially though, going off these various sources, it seems like Pattinson has been selected over Nicholas Hoult to play Batman, and the only thing left to do now is for the actor to sign on the dotted line once everything in his contract is to his liking.

But there are other details that have come out today concerning The Batman, also courtesy of Deadline. For instance, reportedly the screen tests for Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult occurred yesterday, and by the end of the day, Warner Bros decided Pattinson was the right man for the job. Thats an extremely quick turnaround, but I guess if you know immediately who is the better candidate, why wait on moving forward?

This report also mentioned that Robert Pattinsons deal will include options for at least two more movies, which is hardly surprising given how often studios give sequels to superhero movies. Its also noted that The Batman will track Bruce Wayne in the formative stages of Batman, hence why a younger actor was required to bring the Dark Knight to life.

The last interesting tidbit is that The Batman will in no way carry on the work that Ben Affleck did as the older Batman in Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League. Now obviously if The Batman is a direct prequel to those movies, then theres no need to reference or allude to them since those events are approximately a decade away from happening.

However, given that Warner Bros is willing to release Joker, a standalone movie not set in the DCEU, I cant help but wondering if The Batman might also not take place within that shared universe, and Robert Pattinsons Caped Crusader will be his own entity rather than a younger version of Ben Afflecks Batman. That would give Matt Reeves a lot more creative freedom with telling the kind of Batman story he wants and not needing to worry about it lining up with DCEU canon, but well have to wait and see if this is indeed the case.

So far all thats been revealed about The Batman is that it will be a noir tale that highlights the eponymous protagonists detective skills. Matt Reeves has also said it will features numerous Batman villains, with Penguin and Catwoman reportedly among them.
